In be successful selling goods and services online, everyone knows the best way to do that is to have a high ranking on search engines like Google to make your site easier to find. Being able to read your site’s analytics can help you determine what you need to do to improve your website‘s ranking. However, some metrics like PageRank, will not necessarily help better your site’s Google ranking.

The Benefits of High PageRank

PageRank should be familiar to anyone who oversees website’s for businesses because it has been around since the advent of SEO. It is a quality metric that ranks the importance, authority and reliability of a website. Achieving a high PR rank can help improve your site’s search engine ranking, but it isn’t necessary to have a high PR in order to have a high Google ranking.

The main benefit to having a high PR is that the more popular your website is, the more people will want to link to your site. It will also be easier to find guest bloggers to write for your site when it is popular as well. Having guest bloggers write your site gives it more authority, which will create more attention for your site.

A site that has a high PR will often get more comments and discussions going than sites that don’t have a high PageRank. Many people who comment on your site may only be interested in creating a backlink for their own website, but it is also a good sign that people are reading and interested in the site’s content. However, a high Google ranking isn’t necessarily one of the benefits your site will achieve with a high PR.

The Google Ranking Disconnect

While having a high PageRank can help boost your website’s searching engine ranking, it doesn’t guarantee a high Google ranking for your site. There are many factors that go into having a high Google ranking and in the past, PageRank played a more important role in Google’s ranking algorithm. However, the ranking algorithm now considers 200 different variables, so one single variable will no longer have a big impact on ranking.

While a high PR can be important to your site’s Google ranking, factors like social media traffic, good site content and having coding that is SEO friendly has more importance. There are reasons to strive for a high PR, but don’t count on it for high Google rankings.
